PowerCorner

The group Engie supplies electricity to Ketumbeine, a Tanzanian village

Project description

Through the PowerCorner project, the Group Engie now supplies electricity to Ketumbeine, a Tanzanian village that is home to 800 people. The project relies on the installation of a mini-grid of solar panels enabling all PowerCorner clients to pay their connection charge using a payment app (Mobile Money System). An operator working in the village is responsible for managing the PowerCorner site. The customer then consumes energy using pre-paid smart meters. Residents can also purchase electrical appliances under favorable credit conditions. The Group aims at progressively replicating this sytem throughout the country, and more generally in Africa.
