Solar Freeze

Portable freezers to fight food loss in Africa

Project description

In much of the developing world, post-harvest losses are as high as 80% due to a lack of a cold‐storage logistics chain. Solar Freeze provides an “Uber-ing” solution that does not require an internet connection for perishable produce by smallholder farmers in Kenya. Through a platform running on simple USSD, farmers are able to order logistics services for their produce. Their platform also connects smallholder farmers with portable solar-powered cold storage that helps prevent post-harvest loss.
