The connectivity in rural areas

Project description

To increase its presence in rural zones where the access to telecom services is poor, the mobile telephony operator MTN Rwanda signed a network integration agreement with the company Vanu Rwanda, susbidiary of the American Vanu Inc., specialised in providing telecom operators with an access to solar mobile network in remote areas. According to Anthony Masozera, its CEO, cooperate with MTN will have a transformative impact on the life of Rwandan people. This alliance will close any widening digital gap while providing services that are not available yet in rural areas. Besides vocal and data services, this cooperation will allow the providing mobile money services and the blossoming of new hitherto untapped opportunities. Bart Hofker, the CEO of MTN Rwanda, engaged in providing all of his subscribers with an improved rural service. The agreement with Vanu Rwanda higlights this commitment, that is to provide people from remote areas the same type of connectivity as for city dwellers. The government also encourages this agreement. Patrick Nyirishema, CEO of Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA), supports this initiative in acoordance with the wish to cover 100% of the country.
