A project to improve farm productivity in Tchad

Project description

The Reinforcement of farm productivity and resilience of climate Project (Propad), led in common by the Chadian Ministries of Economy and Development Planning (MEPD), of Agriculture, Irrigation and Agricultural Equipment (MAIEA), and Environment, Water and Fishing (MEEP) benefit in 2018 from a Global Bank funding up to 41 millions of US dollars. The funds raised through the International Development Agency (IDA) will enable the ambitious project that is the appropriation and the massive use of technological innovation in the service of agriculture. Propad serves a double purpose: to sutainably increase productivity in the agricultural sector to improve food security and the feeding of Chadian rural households while increasing their incomes and their ability to commercialise a bigger part of their production, to reinforce the resilience of the agricultural production system towards climatic change in target zones following three criteria that are of an high agricultural potential, an impotant level of rural poverty and a food security worrying stage. Also, Propad will be deployed in the regions of Salamat, Central Chari and Mandoul where 1,5 millions of people are living (about 11% of the total population) among which 360 000 small owners, yearly cultivating between 1 and 5 ha of land, will benefit from it in priority.
