M-PESA is a mobile money transfer service launched in March 2007 by Safaricom, Kenya’s largest mobile network operator in partnership with Vodafone. It is the first mobile money transfer launched in Africa, it provides people with a safe, secure, and affordable way to send and receive money, top-up airtime, make bill payments, receive salaries, get a short-term loan, and much more. It is now operating in 7 African countries: the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania.
