Icow

Icow, an agricultural counselling startup

Project description

"Founded in 2010 in Kenya by Su Kahumbu Stephanou, the Green Dreams start-up TECH Ltd has developed iCow, a mobile and web platform offering a wide variety of services to African farmers ranging from consulting to resources, to the possibility of connecting to other farmers in Africa. The aim is to help the 700 millions of African farmers to generate and optimise their productivity gains and thus equalize the chances of African rural producers who, because of the lack or even the absence of information and training concerning the specificities of each person's activities, fail to exploit their productive potential effectively. To achieve this, iCow includes a "Farmer Library", a kind of encyclopedia where all of the most useful information for agricultural production is stored (understand the type of soil the farmer owns, identify the diseases that affect their crop, identify the seeds that are the best adapted to its geographical area, etc.), which are mostly accessible without Internet access, only through SMS entries. The user of iCow also has an alert and reminder service based on the progress of the growth of his crop or livestock, a service called "Kalendar".
